The Flyin! A weekend of two halves... rain stopped play on the Saturday but Sunday turned out nice again!

The decking is well and truly opened with at least 100 pairs of feet treading the boards. Saturday proved to be one of those 'yes it will clear give it an hour' type of days. The clearing did not arrive until after 6 in the evening, however, 2 intrepid flyers, one in an RV6 and the other in a Minimax, braved the weather to enjoy a bacon butty and a tea. I would like to say we all sat out on the decking but the horizontal rain prevented that! The local scout group did a sterling job of cooking the bacon and making the tea, most of which was consumed by the resident pilots! The promised entertainment went ahead as planned with The Old Fokkers and the Mad Fox groups playing to a packed audience of about 15... the 3 Old Fokkers, the 4 members of Mad Fox and assorted friends. Much beer and wine was consumed and singing continued into the small hours, accompanied by the torrential rain battering the hangar roof! One Old Fokker was heard to comment that 'if you listen hard it sounds just like thunderous applause...'.

Sunday dawned brighter with the promise of lighter winds and less rain. It did rain less however the wind caused several 'interesting' arrivals to be witness by those populating the now sunlit decking area. Someone suggested that we needed score cards to give the arriving pilots points for artistic merit. Someone else suggested we keep them near the stretcher... At least 20 planes arrived including a most beautiful Luscome. Many butties were eaten, much tea drunk and there was the usual plentiful supply of 'plane banter'. A spirited show a aerobatics entertained the assembled throng delivered by Martin Hill in his Pitts, many thanks Martin. All in all a success, not the most well attended, but that is the British weather for you. God is just not a pilot, whoever she is.

Many thanks to Andy, Mark and Adam for help over the weekend. Many thanks to the Crosland Moor scout group and of course many, many thanks also to all those who flew in.

The decking is now open!

It would be remiss of me not to mention that we did indeed have a celebrity in our midst over the weekend. Renown author and aircraft builder Andy Carter was with us. You can read his wonderful article here. He will be doing an 'article signing' next weekend if you want to bring the LAA magazine along to the airfield. http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/2010/Magazine/2010/Sep/Sonex.pdf
